Inspiration

Posted by joseph58 on August 10, 2011

So I was reading my friend’s blog and it inspired me to get into blogging again. I will hopefully keep this up, but I make no promises. I need some people to read my blog first, though. So if you’re reading this right now you should keep checking back to read my other posts. By the way, the guy’s blog that I was reading was pretty good so you should read it too. The URL is http://quinnrw.tumblr.com/.

Kela’s Request

Posted by joseph58 on December 15, 2010

I was talking to Kela and she told me to post something about elephants. So that’s what I’m doing. Elephants are big and they have huge ears (some of them can even fly). There’s a funny youtube video of an elephant sneezing and scaring itself, it’s pretty funny. So that’s all I’ve got on elephants for now.

I’ve got the Nasty!

Posted by joseph58 on May 15, 2010

I recently discovered, at pitching practice, that I have a super good curveball. It has so much movement on it that I don’t think any 12 year old could hit it. I can’t throw it all the time though, because it’s not very good for your arm. But if an opportunity to throw it comes, I will definitely be striking that batter out. It was funny though, at practice, one of my coaches kept wanting to see it again and again, like it was a new toy and he was 8 years old. Then my other coach (my pitching coach) was kind of like the voice of reason and says “Just don’t fall in love with it.” I haven’t fallen in love with it, but I think my other coach has. Any way I then remembered that a curveball’s nickname is cheese (a fastball’s nickname is gas). That got me thinking, why on Earth is a pitch called cheese? I mean, of all the things to name a pitch, why cheese? Did somebody throw a piece of cheese and it curved, or did they wrap a ball in cheese and then throw it? Well whatever it is, I can throw it now, so I’ve got some cheese.

Sox Aren’t Looking Good

Posted by joseph58 on April 19, 2010

This season for the Red Sox so far has been pretty darn bad, verging on terrible (if it isn’t already there). The only team that’s doing worse in the AL east is the Baltimore Orioles, who are 2 and 11 (that’s 2 wins 11 losses for all you non-sports fans) versus the Red Sox 4 and 8 record. They just can’t seem to hit and a key part of that problem is David Ortiz. Ever since Manny Ramirez left a couple of years ago he just hasn’t been the same dominant force that he used to be. I have a feeling that when Ramirez left he took a little piece of Ortiz with him. The Red Sox pitching, though, is another story, starting with Becket. You can argue all you want, but something is wrong with him. Like Ortiz, he just isn’t as dominant and good as he was a couple of years ago, and it’s just going downhill. Right now one of their best pitcher’s is John Lackey, a new addition to the team this year. Speaking of new additions, that could be another reason why the Red Sox are not doing so hot. They have almost a whole new infield and a new center fielder. The team just needs to bond a little bit more with the new additions and maybe things will pick up. Last year the Red Sox weren’t doing to well at the beginning of the season either, but then things started to go better as the season went on. That being said, I still have the utmost faith in the Red Sox.

It’s my arch!

Posted by joseph58 on April 7, 2010

So yesterday was my first day back at school after spring break. The moment I walked into science class my teacher said “Dude! You want to see something cool?” I said yeah and she took out her phone and went to her pictures. She scrolled through a bunch of pictures of Utah where she had apparently gone for spring break. She finally stopped on one rock formation. She said “First look at the rock.” By then the whole class had accumulated around her so she showed the picture of the rock formation to everybody, then she said “You want to know what it’s called? It’s called Joe Wilson arch!” (that’s my name if you didn’t already know that) we all laughed and I said that that was crazy and she showed us a sign that told the story of why it was called that. Now my teacher calls me arch. Just another day in science class. :D

Go Sox!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by joseph58 on April 5, 2010

As last week’s picture of the week said, the Red Sox opening night was on Sunday, and it was against none other than their biggest rival, the New York Yankees. But the good news is, is that the Red Sox won! Josh Beckett, the Red Sox starting pitcher had a tough night though, giving up 5 of the Yankee’s 7 runs. Luckily the Red Sox came back from trailing 5 to 1 and tied it up at 5. Then the Yankees scored two more runs the next inning, but that’s all they got the rest of the night. The Red Sox then scored four more runs to make it 9 to 7 in the ninth inning. Jonathan Papelbon, the Red Sox closer (and my favorite player) shut the Yankees down and kept them from scoring any more runs. So the Red Sox won opening night, and Red Sox nation is happy and contempt, for now.

SNOW DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by joseph58 on March 24, 2010

It all started with rain, lots of rain, in 6th period at school. The rain got stronger and stronger until it was pouring extremely hard. Then while I was going home a tiny bit of snow started to get mixed in with the rain. Then about ten minutes after I got home it was full on snowing. It didn’t take very long for that snow to start accumulating on the ground. It was really coming down hard the whole rest of the day. My sister and I then got on the computer and looked up the school closures. We scrolled down the list and were extremely happy to see St. Vrain Valley district listed as closed. SNOW DAY!!!!!!

I Won!

Posted by joseph58 on March 24, 2010

Last weekend my baseball team had their first tournament of the year. Well not the whole thing because the games on Saturday got canceled due to snow. But anyways on Sunday we had three games and we won them all! So we were the tournament champions! We got these cool metals, and now I’m all happy.

Avatar

Posted by joseph58 on March 13, 2010

I recently saw the movie Avatar. As many of you have probably heard or said yourself, it was an awesome movie. It was pretty long but I think it flowed very nicely and kept you interested with something happening all the time. I also thought that the beginning was very good. It kind of jumped right into the story, and you didn’t have to wait forever for something cool, interesting, or exciting to happen. The part that I thought was great was the middle to the end. The creativity and action of the ending battle was amazing and kept me watching, not that it needed to, I was already hooked about 15 minutes into the movie. I highly recommend you go and see Avatar, it will definitely be worth your time.

Spongebob…

Posted by joseph58 on March 9, 2010

So I was watching Spongebob the other day (don’t look so surprised) and I realized that in the episode where Patrick wants to get an award he tries to go out of the water to say something to an island and he lasts about 2 seconds out of the water and then can’t breathe and goes back into the water. But in a different episode when Sandy challenges Spongebob, Patrick, Squidward, and Mr. Krabs to go on dry land they are fine and can breathe normally. This just doesn’t make sense but the show is still awesome.

New Cleats!

Posted by joseph58 on March 2, 2010

Yesterday I realized that my old cleats were way too small, they were a size 5 1/2 and my shoes are a 6 1/2! So my dad and I went to Sports Authority right away because I start outdoor practices today. We found some cleats that actually look almost exactly the same as my old ones but bigger, way bigger. We found out that my size in cleats (because they fit a little differently than regular shoes) is a 7 1/2, but I could also fit into an 8 sort of. The scary thing is, my dad wears a size 8 1/2. Ha ha, I’m catching up to you dad!

Picture of the Week!

Posted by joseph58 on February 23, 2010

I found this widget that lets me display an image in the sidebar of my blog. So I have decided, just to keep things new and maybe give you a laugh, to change the image every week and it will be the picture of the week! All you have to do to view the image is turn your eyeballs a little bit to the left and you will see some text that says Picture of the Week, directly under that is the picture of the week. Hope you enjoy!

Good Luck Charm

Posted by joseph58 on February 20, 2010

Last Christmas I got a cool twisted baseball necklace that I had been wanting. I decided that it was my good luck charm and I wear it almost all the time, especially in sports events. Today (actually like two seconds ago) I was in my kitchen about ten minutes before going to baseball practice. I felt like I was missing something. I finally realized what it was and yelled “No wonder I feel so naked!” I then ran across the kitchen, did a knee slide under the refrigerator door that my dad had opened, ran up stairs to my room, grabbed my necklace, and ran back down stairs. Once I put it on, I immediately felt relieved and the feeling of missing something had completely gone away. Just thought I’d share that with everybody.

I Invented a New Cologne!

Posted by joseph58 on February 17, 2010

The other day (Monday to be exact) I went skiing. We were going on a run that I had never done before and it was full of little trees. I got way too much speed and I didn’t really have much control of myself. I almost hit my sister but I got out of the way. Unfortunately when I swerved out of the way of my sister I was put straight in the path of a tree about as tall as me if not a little taller. Since I didn’t really have control of myself I hit the tree really hard with the left side of my body and fell. After that my left shoulder smelled like evergreen, I think I just invented a new, natural cologne.

Harry Potter Fan

Posted by joseph58 on February 1, 2010

A couple of months ago I was thinking that my sister’s Harry Potter obsession couldn’t get any bigger. Then she walked into the house one day with a 300 page Harry Potter coloring book in her hands and a huge smile on her face. She is 16 years old. I think I’ve made my point here.

Winner Winner!

Posted by joseph58 on January 27, 2010

First of all, I am sorry that I haven’t blogged in a while, I’ve been kind of busy (not lazy if that’s what you’re thinking) but I’m back and I’m gonna start blogging again! Anyways, this whole thing started out when I gave one of my friends that’s chinese a badge that said winner on the front, but told him to wear it the other way because it said made in china on the back. I brought a different winner badge too and we wore them all day. Then, I can’t remember who it was exactly that started it, it may have even been me, but someone said winner like they were talking in a foreign accent and pronounced it like wiener as a joke. Then I walked into science and someone asked me what I was wearing and I said it was my wiener badge. Then it caught on with the whole class, even my teacher. We were grading the homework and I was playing with my badge and my teacher said with a laugh “stop playing with your wiener!” The whole class started laughing and then a couple minutes later I asked “Then what would this be?” and I put the badge in my mouth and bit down. The class laughed again and the wiener joke went on for the rest of the day.

BOO!

Posted by joseph58 on January 14, 2010

Today in spanish class, we were taking a quiz. It was completely silent (which is kind of weird because there’s usually at least one person making some noise). Then all of a sudden my spanish teacher screamed BOO! It was so loud and surprising that you could literally see everybody jump out of their seat. My spanish teacher just sat back and laughed and said “Wow I thought I would get a few people with that, but not the whole class!” Best. Spanish class. Ever.

Best M&M Ever!

Posted by joseph58 on January 14, 2010

Today in science class, I was doing my work. Then my teacher came over to me and handed me a white M&M and said “Blog about that!”. It was a special edition, coconut M&M! It was one of the best things I’ve ever tasted and should be one of the wonders of the world. Yeah, it was that good.

Don’t Forget Your Materials…

Posted by joseph58 on January 6, 2010

I know that six of my other posts have taken place here, but I don’t care. In my science class if you forget something that you are supposed to have (binder, science text book, planner, composition book, pencil, and homework) then it affects your grade a tiny bit. Today a kid in my class forgot something that he needed for class and he was talking back to my teacher. So my teacher finally got a little annoyed and said “Fine just go get it and return in two minutes or you get recess detention.” Most people (or at least I did) thought that our teacher was kidding, but once then she took off her digital watch, put it on stopwatch mode, handed it to a student and said “Start it and tell me when it gets to two minutes.” All I have to say is that the kid that forgot one of his materials is going to be spending recess in the science room tomorrow.

Theories…

Posted by joseph58 on January 6, 2010

I realized, while doing some reading for social studies class, that there are so many theories that we have come to accept for so long that some people don’t even realize that they’re theories. For example, the theory of gravity. We have had this theory for about 345 years, so naturally we’ve come to accept it. Now this theory is probably correct, but we have to remember, theories can’t really be proved absolutely correct, there’s evidence that can make a theory more truthful, but not absolutely, completely correct. So really, when you think about it very basically, the theory of gravity is just one of Isaac Newton’s many brilliant ideas. But what if this idea was wrong? We’ve built so many other theories and discoveries off of this idea, if it was wrong then much of our scientific world would come crashing down on top of it. Now I’m not saying that the theory of gravity is wrong, but it’s just something to think about.

Good Timing Mother Nature!

Posted by joseph58 on December 23, 2009

If you live in Colorado, then you know that it’s snowing pretty well here. It just started snowing last night and it’s still snowing this morning. Well all I can say is good timing mother nature because Christmas is in two days and it’s snowing, which makes it a stereotypically correct holiday! I’m already extremely excited for Christmas and this, considering that I’m going skiing over Christmas, makes me even more excited. The only disadvantage about this snow is that I have to shovel, but I think that’s a small price to pay for a white Christmas.

Hack Wilson

Posted by joseph58 on December 19, 2009

As you may know from previous posts, I play baseball, but I come by it honestly. I figured out last year that my great great great uncle is in the baseball hall of fame! I know that sounds a little far fetched but it’s absolutely true, you can even look him up if you want to, his name is Hack Wilson (his real name was Luis Wilson but he’s known by Hack). He played for the New York Giants, the Chicago Cubs, the Brooklyn Dodgers, and the Philadelphia Phillies. His career was from 1923 to 1934 and he was known for his hitting. He even has some physical features that some of my relatives have, he had a big upper body and tiny feet to support it. He even has a biography if you still don’t believe me, but I’m telling you, my great great great uncle is in the hall of fame.

Head Full of Suds

Posted by joseph58 on December 19, 2009

Today, yet again, in science class something out of the ordinary happened. I was trying to get this potato clock to work, and these two girls were washing my teacher’s dishes. So I was at the counter where the potato clock was, minding my own business, and the next thing I know one of the girls that was washing the dishes comes over to me with a handful of soap bubbles and slams them on my head! My science teacher then used that as a water conservation example. She said that now I didn’t have to shampoo next time I take a shower. All I can say is that my science class has got to be one of my strangest classes, but I like it.

Teaching…

Posted by joseph58 on December 17, 2009

In one of my classes at school, it’s called exploratory, we do certain stuff that you don’t do in the normal classes, it’s basically a class for whoever doesn’t do band. So in my exploratory class we have book buddies. Book buddies are second graders, and we help them with their projects that they’re doing and stuff like that. We only have exploratory every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, so yesterday was the last day of exploratory until a two week long winter break, because we get Friday off. So my buddies were so hyper that i couldn’t control them. They’re usually hyper because it’s part of a second grader’s nature, but yesterday they were way more hyper than normal and I had to try extra hard to keep them working and on task. Once they left to go back to their classroom, my exploratory teacher said “Don’t you just love being a second grade teacher before a school break?” All I can say is I’m not growing up to be a teacher.

Red Sox Left Side…Gone!

Posted by joseph58 on December 15, 2009

The Red Sox adding pitcher John Lackey to their rotation could mean total change of the left side of their starting line up. Getting Lackey means that they spent the money that they were probably going to spend on Bay, on him. Which means that they won’t offer Bay the money that he wants and he will leave. As for the infield, Mike Lowell, the Red Sox third baseman, is most likely going to the Rangers, as long as his physical checks out. If the Red Sox get Adrian Beltre, which they are trying to do, they will most likely put him on third base. Also, the Red Sox have shortstop Marco Scutaro, so they will probably take Gonzales out and put him on. Other than that, right now the other side of the Red Sox’s starting line up is the same.

Christmas…

Posted by joseph58 on December 13, 2009

How did the tradition of Christmas come about? I have no clue, but I do know that the Christmas traditions are pretty weird. First of all how did Christmas come about? Jesus was born, so, I’m not saying I don’t like getting presents or anything, but why do we get presents when it’s actually not our birthday? Another weird tradition is the Christmas tree, which is actually one of my favorite parts of Christmas. Just think about it, you’re putting a tree inside your house! Who knows what that has to do with Christmas. But all these Christmas traditions make Christmas one of my favorite holidays.

Skiing

Posted by joseph58 on December 13, 2009

Today I went up to ski for the first time of the season which, to some people, is starting really late because they’ve been up about ten times already! But that’s not the point, well there isn’t really a point to this post. Anyways, if your a skier and you haven’t been up to ski yet I’ll give you a report. The snow is okay for the beginning of the season, but not great. I was at Mary Jane and there weren’t many lifts open (I ended up doing the same run almost the whole time), but it was still a good way to get ready for the season. In some spots there was powder, but it was pretty deep and not very easy to ski in (my dad had quite a fall). At the beginning of the day it was cloudy and a bit windy, but as the day went on the wind died down and the sun came out. So all in all it was a pretty good ski day.
